In recent years, China's magnesium oxide industry has proposed a new development concept: the "magnesium economy." This model aims to achieve low-cost, clean production of high-purity/ultra-pure ultrafine magnesium oxide through technological innovation. Its core technology-producing ultra-pure ultrafine magnesium oxide through magnesium fuel cells-has been implemented in a 300-ton-per-year production line in Tangshan, Hebei Province, and the reliability and advancement of its production process and product quality have been proven in practice.
Currently, China's magnesium oxide industry is developing towards product functionalization, specialization, and ultrafine processing, with high-value-added products such as activated magnesium oxide, high-purity magnesium oxide, and nano-sized magnesium oxide constantly emerging. With the rise of industries such as new energy vehicles, 5G base stations, mobile phone cover glass, hydrotalcite, and silicon steel, the application fields of magnesium oxide are also expanding.
Ultra-pure ultrafine magnesium oxide, due to its excellent high-temperature stability, electrical insulation, and high thermal conductivity, is in high demand in high-end manufacturing fields such as high-temperature materials, electronics, optical instruments, and national defense and aerospace. Its large-scale production and application are expected to greatly promote performance breakthroughs and product innovation in high-temperature materials.
On the other hand, under the pressure of stringent environmental policies and regulations, the industry is facing a trend of resource consolidation. Many companies that cannot enter industrial parks are facing closure, while those that can relocate will need time. Forming alliances, integrating resources, and mergers and acquisitions have become important trends for the magnesium oxide industry to enhance its competitiveness and meet challenges.
Looking to the future, China's magnesium oxide industry needs to focus on breaking through the technological monopoly of long-term reliance on imports for high-purity and ultra-pure products, and to quickly improve the regulatory and standard system for related basic technologies, testing technologies, and product technologies. At the same time, it should seize the opportunities brought by the "magnesium economy," continue to expand the application of products in emerging strategic fields, and promote the industry's development towards high-end and cleaner products.
