Magnesium chloride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MgCl₂. It typically appears as a white crystalline powder or granular solid and is highly soluble in water and ethanol.
1. Treating magnesium deficiency: It replenishes magnesium ions to correct hypomagnesemia; the oral absorption rate is approximately one-third, and absorption is enhanced when combined with vitamin D.
2. Relieving constipation: When taken orally, it stimulates intestinal motility through an osmotic effect.
3. Other applications: It inhibits the central nervous system, prevents convulsions, and maintains ionic balance in the myocardium.
