1. It serves as a vital inorganic raw material in the chemical industry, used to produce magnesium products such as magnesium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and magnesium oxide, as well as serving as a feedstock for antifreeze agents.


2. In the metallurgical industry, it is used to produce metallic magnesium (via molten salt electrolysis), liquid chlorine, and high-purity magnesia.


3. In the building materials industry, it is a key raw material for producing lightweight construction products-such as fiberglass tiles, decorative panels, sanitary ware, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, magnesium oxychloride cement, ventilation ducts, burglar-proof manhole covers, fire-resistant doors and windows, fireproof boards, partition panels, and artificial marble. In the realm of magnesite-based products, it is used to manufacture high-quality magnesium tiles, fireproof boards, packaging crates, decorative panels, lightweight wall panels, abrasives, stove components, and binders for fireworks fuses.


4. In other sectors, it functions as a food additive, protein coagulant, snow-melting agent, refrigerant, dust suppressant, and refractory material. Tofu coagulated with brine (an aqueous magnesium chloride solution) is more tender and flavorful than tofu coagulated with gypsum.


5. Metallurgical industry: It is used to manufacture refractory materials and binders for furnace wall masonry, and serves as a raw material for producing No. 2 flux and smelting metallic magnesium.


6. Machinery industry: Magnesite (calcined magnesia) can be used to manufacture machinery packaging crates, triangular support blocks, and furniture; it is an excellent material for substituting traditional resources with mineral-based alternatives.


7. Transportation industry: It serves as a road de-icing and snow-melting agent; it offers rapid de-icing speeds and low corrosivity to vehicles, outperforming sodium chloride in effectiveness.

 

8. Pharmaceuticals: Magnesium chloride can be processed into "nigari" (solidified bittern) for medicinal use; it can serve as a laxative.


9. Agriculture: It can be used to produce magnesium fertilizers, potassium-magnesium fertilizers, and cotton defoliants.


10. Applications include: coagulant; nutritional fortifier; flavoring agent (used in combination with magnesium sulfate, table salt, dicalcium phosphate, calcium sulfate, etc.); fermentation aid (e.g., for Japanese sake); dehydrating agent (used in fish cakes at a dosage of 0.05%–0.1%); and texture improver (used with polyphosphates to enhance the elasticity of surimi products). Due to its strong bitter taste, the typical usage level is below 0.1%.
